Gaza-Lebanon Humanitarian Appeal
Concern is responding to meet the needs of thousands of people who've fled their homes in Lebanon and Gaza due to escalating violence.
Loss of life and mass displacement
In Lebanon, the latest surge in violence has caused significant loss of civilian life and injuries - with more than 600 people killed, including children, and 1,700 people injured since 23 September.
The conflict has triggered mass displacement, with tens of thousands of people fleeing southern and eastern Lebanon to safer areas. At least 90,000 newly displaced people have been reported since 23 September. Those who've fled include Syrian and Palestinian refugees who have previously been displaced from their homes.
In Gaza, over 1.9 million have been forced to leave their homes and are in desperate need of food, water, shelter and medical care. The entire population (2.23 million) is facing high levels of food insecurity, and half of the population is estimated to be experiencing catastrophic or ‘near famine’ levels of hunger.
How we're responding in Lebanon and Gaza
We've been working in Lebanon since 2013, responding to the needs of Syrian and Palestinian people displaced from their countries while also supporting vulnerable families in Lebanon. Along with our partners, we are now supporting people fleeing from escalating violence. In Gaza, we are working with our partners to providing life-saving aid including providing vital food, water and essential sanitation.
Already incredibly difficult situation
Even before this recent escalation, the situation in Lebanon was already incredibly difficult, with an unprecedented economic crisis, political instability, and the country still dealing with the impact of a massive explosion in Beirut in 2020.
On top of this, Lebanon has been hosting 1.5 million Syrian refugees, and Palestinian refugees, and dealing with the additional displacement of over 100,000 people from the south since October last year.
