Our supporters' impact in 2024

Our supporters' impact in 2024

In 2024, a rise in conflict and climate crises has seen the world become an increasingly unpredictable place, and more and more people are in urgent need of humanitarian support. The kindness of our amazing supporters has helped us support people living in vulnerable conditions across 26 countries.

This year, we launched five campaigns to support projects in seven countries where people have been facing unimaginable hardships. Here is what the generosity of Concern supporters have achieved:

Ethiopia Emergency Appeal – responding to alarming hunger levels

When Ethiopia was hit with a drought caused by the El Nino weather system in the spring, we appealed to donors to help scale up our emergency response to the growing hunger crisis with the aim of supporting 20,000 people. Thanks to our donors we were able to raise £31,000.

Concern’s Country Director in Ethiopia, Austin Kennan, gave us an update, “In addition to the planned emergency cash assistance to families, we are currently responding to the situation with extensive health and nutrition, water and sanitation programmes across drought-impacted areas of Tigray, Amhara and Somali regions".

Sudan and Chad cross-border response

This appeal in the summer raised £164,220. This generosity has allowed us to set up nutrition clinics on the Chad/Sudan border to support those fleeing the conflict. Over the past year, we have screened over 14,000 children for malnutrition, and we have also been able to distribute shelter kits to house 3,500 people so far.

With the devastating conflict in Sudan continuing into the new year, this work will be vital in a nation now facing the world’s worst displacement crisis, where an estimated 729,000 children under five have severe acute malnutrition.

Our autumn appeal to raise funds to feed Rohingya children in the world’s largest refugee camp, Cox’s Bazar, has raised £87,756.  Working alongside Rohingya communities through our 18 nutrition centres, we reached over 90,000 people with integrated nutrition support last year. The generosity of our supporters has allowed us to continue this work to provide therapeutic food to children facing acute malnutrition.

We began to work in Gaza, alongside trusted partners, to provide life-saving aid including vital food, water and essential sanitation. With our partner CESVI, we have provided clean water to almost 180,000 people. In Lebanon, we are supporting people who are fleeing the conflict with emergency shelters and providing psychological first aid for those who have experienced severe trauma and grief, as well as cash assistance to buy essential items such as cooking and hygiene products.

One gift this Christmas to support a child facing the hunger crisis in Somalia

This Christmas we are appealing for supporters to give one gift to support a mother and her child in Somalia. We are now running over 20 health facilities in remote, hard-to-reach, and internal displacement camps - these facilities serve over 1,000 mothers daily. With our donors’ support, we aim to tackle the persistently high rates of maternal mortality and child malnutrition, ensuring access to high-quality healthcare services that prevent avoidable deaths and reduce childhood illnesses and acute malnutrition. By scaling up life-saving interventions such as immunizations, antenatal care, and therapeutic nutrition programs, we aim to create lasting change and build a healthier future for Somalia’s children and mothers.

Thank you

On behalf of all of us at Concern Worldwide and the communities we are working with, we cannot thank all our supporters enough. It is no exaggeration to say that they have helped change lives. Thanks to their generosity, we have supported 30 million people in 26 of the world’s poorest countries. We will undoubtedly face many challenges around the world in 2025 but with their support, we can change the lives of those facing extreme poverty.
