Concern Worldwide's statement on cuts to UK aid in 2024 Autumn Budget

Press release30 October 2024

Following the 2024 Autumn Budget delivered today Sayyeda Salam, Executive Director of Concern Worldwide (UK), said:

“The 2024 Autumn Budget delivered today has seen no increase to UK aid. We know that more people than ever before are seeing their homes and livelihoods destroyed by conflict and climate change. In real terms this is a cut in funding that will have damaging consequences for families living in extreme poverty, who cannot afford nutritious food, access to healthcare, or to send their children to school.

The UK is the sixth largest economy in the world, and at a time of greater global challenges the government needs step up to meet its international responsibilities, not back down from them. What we need to see is a clear and planned pathway back to meeting the legal obligation to spend 0.7% of gross national income on official development assistance, in a way that means we can make the most effective, strategic and impactful decisions for people living in extreme poverty."
